Airbus A340-200

Prototype of the Airbus A340 Family F-WWBA

Launched in 1987 as part of the initial A330/340 program, the A340-200 flew further than any other commercial airliner for over a decade. It allowed airlines to open non-stop routes such as Paris-Taipei, and Manila-London, distant cities previously served with stopping services. With the further development of the range capability of the larger A340-300 and the ultra long range A340-500. The concept of the A330/A340 Family is unique – a single basic airframe in several versions with two or four engines to achieve the optimum balance of the operating variables of size, range and economics for the airline.
