June 11th 2016, it’s a grey saturday in the far north of the Netherlands. Location Leeuwarden AFB.
F-35 Lightning II
This year the public days of the Dutch air force are dominated by the presence of two Dutch F-35 Lightning II aircraft that crossed the atlantic for tests in the Netherlands on Leeuwarden AFB and around (airborne) Volkel AFB. Also the air force took the change to promote the aircraft to the Dutch public. Especially the noise of the F-35 was reason for concerns in the surroundings of Leeuwarden and Volkel AFB. These concerns were proved to be untrue.
Public Days are populair
Public Days of the air force are a popular day out in the Netherlands, but this year (because of the F-35) it was extremely busy, more than 280,000 people attended the show in 2016. For me it wasn’t as busy like this since the eighties!
Grey and Wet
Unfortunally the weather on the saturday we were present was not very good, grey and wet. If you look close enough you can see the rain on some photo’s as ‘noise’.
