The Farnborough Airshow was the hottest ever, a heat wave ravaged Great Britain with temparatures above 40 degrees celcius.
American aircraft maker Boeing managed to secure more orders for new aircraft than its European rival Airbus at the biennial air show in Britain’s Farnborough.
Among other things, Boeing received an order worth $13.5 billion, or 13.2 billion euros, for 100 MAX-10-type aircraft for U.S. airline Delta Airlines. There is also an option outstanding for another 30 aircraft. The MAX type had fallen out of favor due to two fatal crashes in 2018 and 2019. But during the air show, interest in the aircraft type seemed to have returned. Japanese airline ANA and Qatar Airways also placed orders, Qatar with options for more.
Airbus, on the other hand, received only 56 orders for the A320neo. That deal was good for $6.2 billion and came from British budget airline easyJet. Airbus chief executive Guillaume Faury told AFP news agency that it was more important to deliver the cases than to fill the order book. He further stressed that the number of orders for this year was well on target.
