Historic Anniversary Gathering at Base Aérienne 103 The NATO Tiger Meet 2011 Spottersday marked the 50th anniversary of the NATO Tiger Association at Base Aérienne 103 Cambrai-Épinoy in northern France. Organised by host unit Escadron de Chasse 1/12 Cambrésis, the exercise brought together elite air arms across the alliance for joint air combat operations, static showcases, and rare tactical flight photographic opportunities.

The 2011 exercise commemorated 50 years of tiger-themed operations and stood as one of the final major exercises at BA 103 Cambrai before its closure. Approximately 1,500 accredited aviation photographers and enthusiasts attended the dedicated Spotters Day on 16 May 2011.
Around 60 combat aircraft and helicopters deployed from 17 operational squadrons across nine nations, including France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Greece, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Turkey. The apron and flight lines showcased Dassault Mirage 2000C, General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon, Panavia Tornado IDS, McDonnell Douglas EF-18 Hornet, Saab JAS 39 Gripen, and Mil Mi-24 Hind. Notable participants included the Turkish Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon from 192 Filo and the German Tornado ECR from Aufklärungsgeschwader 51. Escadron de Chasse 1/12 Cambrésis presented exceptional custom anniversary liveries on their Mirage 2000 interceptors.

Showgrounds and Base Dimensions: Base Aérienne 103 encompassed approximately 350 hectares. The airfield featured a primary concrete runway measuring 2,490 metres in length by 45 metres in width, alongside extensive parallel taxiways and dispersal pads that accommodated flight-line aircraft parking.
Exercise Mission & Goal: The operational goal focused on executing high-intensity Combined Air Operations (COMAO). Aircrews engaged in low-level navigation, aerial intercept, dissimilar air combat training (DACT), search and rescue escort missions, and tactical interoperability among multinational forces.
Participating Nations: France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Greece, the Czech Republic, and Turkey, alongside an airborne NATO E-3A Sentry supporting command and control.
Stars of the Show: The standout aircraft included the host nation’s Mirage 2000C (No. 103-YN) featuring a detailed 50th-anniversary full-body tiger scheme, the Czech Air Force JAS 39C Gripen with elaborate tail art, and the Polish Air Force F-16C Block 52+ making an early international Tiger Meet appearance.
